Climate and Disaster Risk Screening Tool – Water and Sanitation
Accessing the Climate and Disaster Risk Screening Tool requires registering (free) on the World Bank website. The assessment requires approximately 2 hours to complete. It provides users with additional guidance on the climate and disaster risks that may impact their project/program.
The tools apply an Exposure–Impact–Adaptive-capacity framework to assess risks. The framework incorporates elements of the risk analysis framework adopted by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the framework for vulnerability assessment used by the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID’s), with some modifications.
A list of water sub-sectors and sanitation is presented with selection of multiple entries to carry the assessment. In case that the project is entirely a water/sanitation capacity building project, with no physical investments, an option is available to skip part of the analysis (impacts) as this includes an evaluation of potential impact on physical components of a project.
The full list of water and sanitation sub-sectors are:
• Land use /Watershed management
• Dams and reservoirs
• Water supply
• Wastewater
• Sanitation
• Riverine flood protection
The screening assessment produces a detailed project risk report.
