Zambia joined SWA in 2010. The government and development partners work together to enhance efficiency in the sector. The government has led the process of developing the sector vision and strategies, which is focussed on achieving universal access by 2030. The majority of development partners implement programmes and provide funding within the framework and structures created by government. In Zambia, water and sanitation is recognized as a human need. It is necessary for health, nutrition, education and other outcomes especially for children and those most deprived.
