The Central African Republic joined SWA in 2012.
A consultation and coordination platform was created by order of the Prime Minister in 2017. It coordinates all actions of the water, sanitation and hygiene sector. This platform includes mechanisms for mutual accountability among participants and the implementation of a public finance reform in the sector.
Commitments by the government
Launch the National Water and Sanitation Fund, with a specific budget allocated for sanitation and hygiene, by December 2020.
Revise national WASH policies and strategies to bring them in line with the SDGs, focusing on equity and reducing inequalities, by December 2019.
Provide access to safe drinking water and sanitation for 500,000 additional people, particularly the most vulnerable.
Reduce the proportion of people practising open defecation, and ensure access to safe drinking water and sanitation for an additional 500,000 people, particularly the most vulnerable, by the end of 2021.
