The Ministry of Finance and National Economy with support of Ministry of Health to progressively increase budgetary allocation for sanitation from 0.01% of GDP in 2014 up to 0.05% of GDP in 2018 with the 2014 allocation made from the reserve funds.

The Ministry of Health in collaboration with sector agencies at national and state levels to scale up elimination of open defecation ensuring that up to 2 million people live in open defecation free (ODF) communities by April 2016.

Strategic framework for scaling up sanitation has been developed.


Good progress was made on establishing sanitation coordination at national and state level.



Steps Remaining to Fully Achieve:

WASH Policy need to be approved and endorsed.


600 sector partners will be trained at National and state level on CLTS/CATS, and this will be conducted in 2015 to facilitate going to scale with the sanitation propmotion efforts. The sector is planning to reach 2 million of the population by 2016 in partnership between government and other sector partners.

The Ministry of Water Resources and Electricity with Ministry of Health and sector agencies to complete a sector bottleneck analysis initiated in 2013, ensuring the design by December 2015 of a framework for monitoring equitable and sustainable delivery of WASH services.

Milestones of Progress:

Four bottleneck analysis exercises were conducted for 15 out of 18 total states of Sudan. WASH information sytem is active in number of states and a process for strenghening locality level monitoring systems was started.



Steps Remaining to Fully Achieve:

Sector partners capacity will be strengthened through a national monitoring and evaluation course, to be conducted in 2015. Strategic framework for M&E will be developed. Locality level M&E system will be strengthened.

The ccordination mechanism exists but needs to be activated. Process has been initiated in order to activate WASH overall coordination mechanizm. Plans for holding annual sector forum by 2015 are being implemented.



Steps Remaining to Fully Achieve:

Revision and updating of the sector coordination TOR. Undertaken advocacy at high sector level to activate the sector coordination mechanism. Sector forum will be conducted in the last quarter of 2015.
