SWA welcomes a new partner to the Learning and Research Institutions constituency: The Center for Global Safe Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (CGSW) at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

The CGSW has a strong emphasis on field-based training, applied research, capacity development, and adherence to a multidisciplinary approach in addressing global water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) challenges. The Center is also a focal point for evaluation, training, and the development and testing of innovative tools and solutions for major WASH problems – marshalling resources for research, programmatic, and policy initiatives in WASH; working with core partners to ensure sustained improvements and to reduce WASH-related illness; and training the next generation of leaders to address some of the world’s most pressing health, humanitarian and development challenges.

The CGSW joined SWA because SWA is currently the major platform for global WASH sector partners to share ideas and learn from each other. Moving forward to the WASH SDGs, the CGSW hopes to contribute to the evidence-based learning agenda of SWA and its partners to support the SDGs and reaching the poor. The CGSW also sees SWA as a strategic platform for building the capacity of future WASH professionals who are needed to achieve the SDGs.

Housed in Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health, the CGSW combines academic rigor with a commitment to evidence-based action, advocacy, and policy development.
