Catarina de Albuquerque represents SWA at El Pais, AECID events

Catarina was invited by Spanish lead newspaper El Pais (2 million daily readers) to participate in a high-level breakfast discussion on “Water and Sustainable Development”.

Other participants included Alejandro Zarzuela, Technical Director at ACCIONA AGUA and Jose Miguel Mulet, Professor of Biotechnology at the University of Valencia. The dynamic debate was covered in a two-page spread on the 22 March edition of El Pais. Topics approached included affordability of WASH services, water safety and biotechnology.

The Vice -Chair was also invited to speak at the X Jornadas Derecho Humano al Agua y Saneamiento (X Seminar on the Human Right to Water and Sanitation) organized by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).

The seminar focused on the key challenges for implementing the human right to water and sanitation, including cooperation, service delivery, monitoring, financing, access to justice, accountability and citizen participation. AECID also gave SWA an opportunity to give a presentation on the work and achievements of the partnership, as well as the benefits of Spain and Latin America countries becoming partners.
