The third Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) Partnership Meeting was held in The Hague, The Netherlands from 3 to 4 November 2015, hosted by SWA partner DGIS.
Over 90 SWA partners from around the world came together in a meeting with a high-level of engagement and participation. It covered a wide range of topics related to SWA’s role within the global context of the new SDGs. There was a spirit of open and honest dialogue. A good mix of new and returning participants led to new friendships and connexions, but more importantly, an increased focus on participation from countries.
The positive dialogue between the constituencies led to some innovative ideas. Clear themes emerged, which provided beneficial guidance for the Steering Committee meeting which took place the day after the partners’ meeting. These key themes are presented in a [wpdm_hotlink id=811 link_label="short report"]. In summary:
- The new SDGs provide a fantastic opportunity for SWA and the partnership has a real added-value when it comes to the sanitation, water and hygiene related targets.
- Ideas on how partners can implement the new SWA four Collaborative Behaviours.
- Accountability should concern all SWA constituencies not just countries.
- Partners unequivocally pointed out that political mobilisation needs to be linked to the collaborative behaviours, accountability and strengthening country processes.
SWA also announced that former Australian Prime Minister the Hon. Kevin Rudd was joining the partnership as Chair.
The Partnership Meeting was an opportunity to get all SWA partners working collaboratively to reach SWA’s goal: sanitation, hygiene and water for all, always and everywhere.
