UWASNET organised their 5th National WASH CSO Forum which took place on September 30th – October 1st, 2015 in Kampala.

It brought together CSOs, Government, Development Partners, private sector and other key sector stakeholders to showcase their work, deliberate on emerging issues within the sector and develop strategies to implement existing national, regional and international commitments on WASH.

This year’s forum coincided with the United Nations Summit on the Sustainable Development Goals, happening only a day after the adoption of the Goals and a week before the Joint Sector Review meeting where the Uganda Ministry of Water and Environment meet to review progress and set sector undertakings.

As the national umbrella organisation, UWASNET does advocacy towards the realization of the human rights to water and sanitation in Uganda and regionally as the current chair of the African Civil Society Network on WASH and as a focal point for Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) by engaging government, development partners, private sector and civil society organizations for improved WASH service delivery.

On the lead up to the forum, on September 14th, UWASNET launched an awareness campaign called “How well do you know the proposed Sustainable Development Goals” aimed at raising awareness around the proposed 17 SDGs towards the UN Summit.

The theme of the forum, “Uganda Beyond 2015: Leaving No One Behind; Make Water and Sanitation Rights a Reality” captured the significance of the post 2015 development agenda, critically highlighting the significance of productive partnerships towards realizing this goal.

SWA Executive Chair Catarina de Albuquerque contributed to the Forum via video address.
