SWA’s Executive Chair, Ms. Catarina de Albuquerque, participated recently in a panel discussion on Water in Peacebuilding Activities at Lund University in Sweden. This discussion was part of a workshop covering Post-Conflict Situations and the Role of the Security Council.
Ms. de Albuquerque spoke of the obstacles when dealing with water issues in peace-building and discussed how to strengthen the potential of water in the reconciliation processes. Emphasis was placed on the importance of having strong institutions to guide and regulate water services when it comes to peace-building. Additionally, she portrayed the significance of a fair distribution of resources in order to ensure peace and to rebuild it post-conflict.
