SWA at SACOSAN VII (Islamabad, 10-14 April)

10 Apr, 2018

The SWA delegation attending the South Asia Sanitation Conference (SACOSAN) will participate host a side event for partners to discuss the updated Accountability Mechanism. The delegation will also make a presentation on the use of SDG costing tool in a session on financing organized by Sri Lanka.

On Thursday, 12 April, SWA will host a side event – Improving national processes through an inclusive accountability mechanism and alignment to regional sanitation platforms. The objective of this side event is to reinforce the support for planning and reviewing of the sanitation targets while disseminating information about the partnership’s updated accountability mechanism. Participants will be provided with information on the SWA Framework as well as the accountability mechanism, allowing space for group discussions on how organizations can use the partnership to strengthen national processes. This presentation will therefore showcase how the mechanism can build on processes in the respective countries and how it can be applied within governments and institutions.

The South Asian Conference on Sanitation (SACOSAN) is a government led biennial convention that provides a platform for interaction on sanitation, enabling learning from the past experiences and setting actions for the future, with the intent to develop a regional agenda on sanitation. Some of the objectives from previous SACOSAN meetings have included promotion of sanitation as an urgent and priority issue for participant governments, recognition of water and sanitation as human rights issues, focus on sanitation for dignity and health, and setting up national bodies in each country to coordinate sanitation and hygiene involving all stakeholders.

By supporting regional platforms such as SACOSAN, SWA aims to promote dialogue between SWA partners and other stakeholders in the region through an inclusive approach that fosters communication.
