SWA and FANSA appoint South Asia Regional Coordinator

5 Dec, 2018

SWA and FANSA are proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Nitya Jacob for the role of SWA Regional Coordinator for South Asia. As a member of the SWA Secretariat (hosted by CSO partner FANSA), Mr. Jacob will work to increase the active participation of South Asian in-country SWA partners in their government’s planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation activities, thus enhancing the government’s accountability to citizens.

Before joining SWA Mr. Jacob advised several organisations on WASH, including Swasti Health Catalyst, the India Sanitation Coalition, and Water for People. He led the national advocacy and research team at WaterAid India developing the national and state advocacy strategies. As the Director for Centre for Science and Environment’s water programme, he led a national campaign to influence urban water and sewage management. At UN Solution Exchange, he was part of a team to develop long-term strategies on WASH for the Government of India.

Commenting on the appointment, Catarina de Albuquerque, SWA CEO, said “We are excited to bring Nitya on board. South Asia is a key region for SWA, an epicenter of innovation of the water, sanitation and hygiene sector that, over the past decade, has seen noteworthy gains in service access, especially in urban areas. We look forward to working with him as we accelerate progress towards the WASH-related targets of the Sustainable Development Goals.
