Achieving access to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene for all as called for by the SDGs depends on both the effective use of existing financial resources and the ability to mobilize and redirect additional financial resources; these are needed to both maintain current systems and to extend services to the yet unserved. During this discussion with Minister Suleiman H. Adamu and Minister Jabulile Mashwama, moderated by Ms. Catarina de Albuquerque, SWA Executive Chair, the focus will be on the challenges of making strategic use of existing financial resources. The Ministers highlighted areas requiring multi-stakeholder support including from the private sector, development banks, civil society, external support agencies, and research and learning institutions to achieve country goals.

Over the course of the discussion the Ministers interacted with a group of experts with knowledge and experience to address their questions, including Ms. Victoria Rigby Delmon, Senior Counsel, Water Supply and Sanitation Global Practice, The World Bank, Ms. Kirti Devi, Municipal Finance Specialist, Public Private Infrastructure Advisory Facility, and Mr. José Tomás Frade, independent consultant in water sector financing. Dr. Canisius Kanangire, Executive Secretary for the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW), offered closing remarks.
