SWA has a small Secretariat to provide substantive and administrative support to the Steering Committee and the entire partnership.

Secretariat Function

The Steering Committee tasks and oversees the Secretariat on four mandated areas:
• Influencing high-level decision-makers
• Strengthening sector accountability by facilitating the SWA High Level Commitments Dialogue
• Strengthening the functioning of SWA
• Developing communications for impact

UNICEF, at the request of the Steering Committee, hosts the SWA Secretariat in coordination with the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC). The UNICEF Chief of WASH is responsible to the Steering Committee on behalf of the Secretariat. The Secretariat was formally established in September 2010.
